Junior controls and automation programmer/developer

Job Summary

As Junior Controls and Automation Programmer/Developer, you will be responsible to program and develop software’s for the operation of automated equipment, and for the manipulation of associated data.

 

Responsibilities

  • Understand Promation scheduling and budget requirements and apply personal management skills to meet required time and material allowances.
  • Communicate effectively with management, fellow staff, and customers the status of current projects, project concerns and possible solutions.
  • Reviews machine function with senior electrical developer, mechanical design personnel, and mechanical developer associated with the project.
  • Study drawings, manuals, and specifications, then using appropriate software’s proceed to writing all necessary programs.
  • Understand and apply basic ladder logic principles, including sequencer and analog control for I/O systems of 128 I/O or less. Ability to program and interface basic HMI screens for projects as required
  • Document all software written as per Promation standards.
  • Develop all software written to achieve specified performance criteria Development will be done in a “team” environment, which will include electrical and mechanical interests.
  • Research and develop application and use of products involved in a project. Research and development records to be filed for future reference. Successes and failures to be entered under “Best Practices”.
  • Mark drawings to “as built” throughout the project.
  • Occasional travel as required.
  • Additional duties as required.

Requirements:

  • College or University level Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering program
  • 2 years of experience with engineering of automated machinery and robotics
  • Highly self-motivated with a strong initiative to complete tasks independently
  • Effective communicator with excellent written and/or verbal communication with the ability to speak to customers, groups and/or suppliers
  • Effective team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with various sized and diverse teams

Applications engineering (Automotive Division)

Job Summary

The Applications Engineering role will involve planning, managing, and developing custom automation solutions for the Promation Automotive division. This role requires a highly motivated individual with integrated engineering problem solving capabilities, project management skills, and a general business aptitude.


Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and understanding customer technical requirements
  • Proposal development planning
  • Managing a proposal development team including Promation subject matter experts
  • Developing concepts for custom automation solutions
  • Understanding, defining, and managing technical risk
  • Sourcing and managing “best-in-class” third party suppliers through the proposal phase
  • Traveling to customer sites to review current manufacturing practices/solutions and presenting technical proposals
  • Developing cost models for proposed solutions including estimates for labour and purchase items
  • Presenting solutions and costing to senior management for approvals
  • Participation in sales strategy development, working with the Promation sales team
  • Implementing sales strategies jointly with our sales team, including developing presentation materials
  • Writing technical proposals
  • Meet and exceed specified annual dollar sales targets
  • Develop and maintain an active sales funnel of potential clients and prospects by leveraging multiple sources to identify and qualify potential clients such as cold-calling, personal and professional networks, contacts with existing or prospective clients etc.
  • Develop strategic sales and marketing plans (capture plans) for each account and prospective client in conjunction with overall segment and organizational objectives
  • Engage with the client on technical level to understand the client’s specific requirements and then in turn be able to present viable solutions
  • Present recommendations on bids to senior management team
  • Act as first level customer liaison in all customer/company transactions and maintain high level of customer satisfaction
  • Maintain high level of customer satisfaction through direct contact and coordination of internal company resources
  • Ensure that Promation is consistently positioned as the leader and premier automation, integration, and manufacturing company within North America

 

Requirements:

  • College or University Graduate with an Engineering Diploma or Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of Electrical or Mechanical Design experience or Applications Engineering experience in Automation, Machine Building
  • Self-Starter, superior communication skills (including experience with negotiations), robotics, and presentation skills

Lead, Design engineering

Job Summary:

As a Lead, Design Engineering, you have a proven track record of successful mechanical design experience from concept generation to detailed engineering work. You have designed and led large scale, complex engineering systems, and can now use your wealth of knowledge to lead a small group of engineers within the engineering department, guide them to technical success, either in whole or in part by:

 

  • Managing, planning, and executing engineering work for projects that you are assigned
  • Guiding all interfaces and resources related to mechanical design activities, both external and internal, and delegating tasks to assigned engineering resources
  • Coaching and mentoring junior engineers to ensure individuals are growing and gaining valuable experience to better the Promation team
  • Managing communication between the Project Manager, the customer, suppliers, and the design group.
  • Being flexible in your role and performing the duties of a Design Engineer, as well as accepting the challenge of being the primary delegate if the role of Supervisor, Design Engineering, is vacant and required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review project inputs (such as Technical Specifications, Purchase Orders, Proposals, etc.) to ensure all design requirements are clear and understood by engineering team
  • Delegate design tasks to designers that are assigned to you by the Supervisor, Design Engineering, to ensure project schedule is met and engineering budget adhered to
  • Provide input into the engineering resource spreadsheet
  • Generate technical solutions through CAD designs and concept sketches related to prototype machine and/or system construction
  • Produce/assist with technical documents
  • Report design progress and request for resources as required to meet schedules
  • Review drawings for design compliance, accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, tolerances, finishes, etc.
  • Interface with vendors as required
  • Ensure QA program procedures are met on each project that you are assigned
  • Participate and/or lead design reviews, internal and external
  • Participate in and report R&D activities
  • Contribute to the enhancement of department design standards and create/maintain/delegate design standard records
  • Assist with the conceptual design/technical write-up of proposals
  • Support all engineering department activities as required

 

Requirements:

  • A post-secondary degree in industrial or mechanical engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or registered EIT is preferred
  • 4+ years or 5000 hours of direct experience of Solidworks or equivalent
  • Complete understanding of 3D modelling is required
