    Mechanical Designer

    Job Summary:

    The Mechanical Designer role is responsible for delivering mechanical designs for systems based on project and customer requirements, using 3D CAD software. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams within the company to ensure designs meet project requirements on time and within budget. This role requires a strong attention to detail, proficiency in CAD tools (Solidworks), and a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals. The Mechanical Designer is the single point of contact on specific design engineering projects and responsible for providing update status reports and follow up progress checks, as well as attending meetings for assigned projects. This includes presenting and/or supporting Senior Designers/Engineers/Supervisors in presenting technical information to customers or colleagues as required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design Systems, Machinery, Products, and Tools using SolidWorks.
    • Perform engineering calculations and analysis with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
    • Produce working drawings including detail drawings and detailed bills of materials (BOMs). Designs will be based on input from: Engineering Management, Project Management, Customers, the Manufacturing Team, and other key project stakeholders.
    • Demonstrate the understanding of the project by defining machine operations and processes required to generate cycle time/process sequence charts and test parameters.
    • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable codes and standards (i.e. CSA, OSHA, CE, etc., or customer specific).
    • Assist other members of the Mechanical Design team as required.
    • As required, participate with the project manager in the development of the project schedule and budgeted hours distribution.
    • Provide accurate reports on project status to the project manager and department managers.
    • Participate with the development and implementation of design / drafting standards, cost reduction methods, and continuous improvements with the purpose of integrating design technology that will facilitate enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced costs.
    • Ensure that: project milestones / schedule / budget is achieved, mechanical project documentation (quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings packages, part and assembly models, schedules, spare parts lists, etc.) are maintained and up to date.
    • Review drawings for: accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, dimensions, etc.
    • Provide other deliverables and support as defined by the Engineering manager and/or Design Supervisor.
    • Review/establish electrical requirements with respect to input and output devices with electrical designers.
    • Review/establish machine operation, machine sequences, time studies, HMIs, etc., with programmers.
    • Responsible for communicating time estimates and level of effort on design tasks to the Manager or Supervisor, Design Engineering, and Project Manager.
    • Assist the fabricators, machinists, assembly personnel, programmers, and electricians in the debugging, integration, troubleshooting, and commissioning of systems/machinery/tools.
    • Assist/support installers in system/machinery installation at customer facilities as required.
    • Determine tools, fixtures, mockups, and equipment to be used in fabrication, assembly, testing of mechanical components and complete assemblies/systems.
    • As required travel to customer and supplier locations.
    • Additional duties as directed by Management.

    Requirements:

    • A post-secondary degree in industrial or mechanical engineering, or a related field
    • A minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience designing complex systems, machines, products, or tooling.
    • Strong ability and experience with SolidWorks, 3D CAD software, in both 3D design and 2D drawings.
    • Knowledge of mechanical design principles including kinematics, force analysis, pneumatics, hydraulics and manufacturing / machine shop techniques, materials & material strengths, standard mechanical and electrical components to be incorporated within designs.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively issue sketches and instructions to members of the project team.

      Senior Mechanical Designer

As a Senior Level Designer, you will be responsible for providing mentorship and guidance to junior designers, ensuring high-quality work through oversight and support.

      Responsibilities:

      • Design Systems, Machinery, Products, and Tools using SolidWorks.
      • Perform engineering calculations and analysis with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
      • Act as the single point of contact on specific design engineering projects, working directly with the project manager, technical staff, supervisors, and managers to meet requirements
      • Produce working drawings including detail drawings and detailed bills of materials (BOMs). Designs will be based on input from: Engineering Management, Project Management, Customers, the Manufacturing Team, and other key project stakeholders.
      • Demonstrate the understanding of the project by defining machine operations and processes required to generate cycle time/process sequence charts and test parameters.

      • Act as a primary source of information regarding the technical details of design projects, communicating with other engineers/designers, and relying on your experience to solve engineering problems
      • Work with manufacturing and assembly staff to implement the equipment designed.
      • Work collaboratively in a cross functional team with key internal project stakeholders to develop, design and deliver custom design and built systems, machinery, & tooling.
      • Assist other members of the Mechanical Design team as required.
      • Coach and mentor junior-intermediate level designers. This includes guiding them on design and on priorities, as well as setting timelines and schedules for all or some of the project design scope.
      • Ensure designs adhere to project and customer requirements.
      • As required, participate with the project manager in the development of the project schedule and budgeted hours distribution.
      • Provide accurate reports on project status to the project manager and department managers.
      • Participate in the development and implementation of design / drafting standards, cost reduction methods, and continuous improvements with the purpose of integrating design technology that will facilitate enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced costs.

        • Experience designing hot cell and isolator liners, outer sheet metal cladding, structural support frame, and manipulator selection/integration
        • Experience or knowledge of GMP requirements for clean rooms and isolators
        • Knowledge of HEPA/ULPA filtration systems, unidirectional laminar airflow, pressure-controlled chambers
        • Knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals manufacturing production processes
        • Strong ability and experience with SolidWorks, 3D CAD software, in both 3D design and 2D drawings.
        •  Knowledge of mechanical design principles including kinematics, force analysis, pneumatics, hydraulics and manufacturing / machine shop techniques, materials &material strengths, standard mechanical and electrical components to be incorporated within designs

          Project Engineer / Project Technical Specialist – Radiopharma and Medical Isotopes


          Job Summary:

          The Project Engineer / Project Technical Specialist – Radiopharma and Medical Isotopes is responsible for providing technical support and guidance on assigned projects involving the design and development of radiopharmaceutical systems and components, including hot cells, isolators, and integrated accessories. Key responsibilities include design support, preparation of technical documentation, oversight and technical management of subcontractors, design verification, and manufacturing support. The Project Engineer / Technical Specialist works in close collaboration with Project Management, serving as the primary technical point of contact on assigned projects. They are responsible for managing and resolving technical matters with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. This role requires a strong foundation in engineering principles and experience in developing and reviewing technical deliverables commonly required in engineering project execution.

          Responsibilities:

          • Development of technical documentation in support of the project(s), including documentation such as:
          • Design Documentation (design requirements, FMEA’s, design plans, etc.)
          • Procedures and Instructions (operation manuals, test plans, etc.)
          • Technical and Vendor Specifications (including SOWs used for subcontracted engineering work)
          • Support the Project Manager (as required) for all quality, risk and technical scope related to planning, executing, monitoring, and closing activities
          • Registration of pressure boundary components/systems
          • Provide technical input to support the preparation of requisitions for subcontracted engineering services, and products
          • Occasionally act as the technical Lead for customer interface events, as coordinated by the Project Manager
          • Present technical information to customers or colleagues (ex. Design Reviews)
          • Provide support for Operations (assembly/fabrication/installation/commissioning, both at Promation and at customer facilities) – including technical coordination of assembly tasks requiring special instructions developed by engineering
          • Provide input to and support in the management of the ‘Rolling Action Items Log’
          • Responsible for the compilation of Lessons Learned documentation on an on-going basis
          • Provide support to the Quality Control team with the management of any unforeseen issues requiring documented change (e.g., NCR’s, Corrective Actions, Concession applications)
          • Provide support to Health & Safety for any safety related project initiatives or needs.
          • Provide input to the Project Manager for project control, such as:
          • Estimate to complete (schedule/labour hours/material and consumables costing)
          • Identification of potential project changes – risks and opportunities for scope/schedule and budget change
          • Provide technical support for preparation of any required COR.
          • Support proposal activities such as quotes and COR’s as assigned by the Engineering Manager/Supervisors
          • Assume additional duties and responsibilities as requested by Management.

          Requirements:

          • A post-secondary degree and/or diploma in industrial or mechanical engineering, or a related field
          • Minimum 3 years of project engineering experience where production challenges are continuously unique rather than repetitive in nature.
          • 1-2 years of relevant industry experience (Radiopharmaceutical / Nuclear Medicine, Pharmaceutical / Biotech Manufacturing)
          • Experience with GMP requirements for clean rooms and isolators
          • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical and/or nuclear industries
          • Experience with Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification, and/or Performance Qualification
          • Experience with validation testing/protocols in the pharmaceutical industry
          • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals manufacturing production processes
          • Preference provided to candidates with experience in the following:

            Controls Designer

            Job Summary:

            The Controls Designer is responsible for the integration of control processors, control devices, actuators, and specialty devices with their control systems, robots, pneumatic controls and devices, and other mechanical fixtures into one operating system.

            Responsibilities:

            • Electrical design of complex automation systems, including component selection, electrical schematics, panel layout drawings, design and integration of safety circuits, PLC programing, HMI design and implementation, robot programing, and vision systems.
            • Interpreting pneumatic schematics as it pertains to the interface with the control system.
            • Interface and integration our systems with customer components and system, as well as OEM components and systems.
            • Interpret drawings, manuals, and specifications, then use appropriate software to configure target devices.
            • Interfacing with the mechanical design team to drive electrical component selection, including sensors, motors, etc.
            • Interfacing with safety engineers for risk assessments and PSHSR and arranging electrical inspection, as required.
            • Program I/O systems, including networked components, motion control, vision, and robotics.
            • Support of factory and site acceptance testing
            • Support customer training
            • Prepare or support the preparation of the system operating manual
            • Support sales and applications activities
            • Field support of the system as required
            • Understand company’s scheduling and budget requirements and apply personal management skills to meet required time and material allowances.
            • Communicate effectively with management, fellow staff, and customers on the status of current projects, project concerns and possible solutions.
            • Prepare for and participate in design reviews (both internal reviews and with the customer)
            • Document system configuration and/or create software design descriptions, as required, as per customer standards.
            • Support research and develop activities, and document them for SR&ED tax credits purposes.
            • Attend training courses to enhance knowledge and skillset (as directed by management).
            • Travel as required to customer sites.

              Instrumentation Assembly Technician

              Job Summary:

              The Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for the mechanical assembly of custom tooling The Instrument Assembly Technician is responsible for the assembly, wiring, calibration, and testing of precision instruments, electronic assemblies, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems. This includes soldering, wiring, assembly, potting, pneumatic/hydraulic integration, and functional testing to meet technical specifications and quality standards. The role requires collaboration with engineering and quality assurance to ensure products meet design, safety, and performance requirements. Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to follow structured procedures are essential for success in this position.



              Responsibilities:


              Assembly Duties:

              • Assemble mechanical equipment, cables, instruments, electronic components, and subassemblies based on technical drawings and specifications.
              • Solder electronic components (SMT and through-hole) in accordance with IPC standards.
              • Perform electrical wiring, cable harnessing, and connector assembly with proper routing and insulation.
              • Assemble and test pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, pumps, actuators, and manifolds.
              • Connect and route pneumatic/hydraulic lines, ensuring sealing, flow, and pressure requirements.
              • Perform potting and encapsulation of assemblies for environmental protection.
              • Calibrate instruments, sensors, and pneumatic/hydraulic devices using precision test equipment.
              • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and corrective actions for electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
              • Safely operate forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment.
              • Travel to customer sites for equipment installation, commissioning, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairs.
              • Provide technical feedback to internal teams based on assembly/field experience.
              • Maintain accurate records of work performed and lessons learned.

              Quality Assurance

              • Ensure adherence to all MITP (Manufacturing, Inspection, Test Plan) requirements, including hold/witness/inspection points.
              • Identify and document assembly issues through NCR/ECR processes.
              • Comply with QA/QC documentation, quarantine, and release protocols.
              • Collaborate with QA and Supervisors on drawing reviews and approvals.

              Purchasing & Materials

              • Support Supervisor in requisitioning consumables, tools, and special components required during builds.
              • Ensure all required documentation is received and compliant with QA standards.

              Health, Safety & Housekeeping

              • Strictly follow all Health & Safety, WHMIS, and PPE requirements.
              • Maintain a clean and organized assembly area (minimum 15 minutes per day dedicated cleaning).
              • Monitor consumables and dispose of expired items per safety protocols.

              Engineering Support (as applicable)

              • Assist in the design and development of fixtures, tools, and test setups.
              • Provide feedback for design updates, improvements, and documentation.
              • Support preparation of engineering documents (testing, operation, maintenance).

                Assembly Coordinator

                Job Summary:


                The Assembly Coordinator is responsible for supporting the assembly team by managing documentation, scheduling, kitting of materials, and coordinating tasks between departments. The role ensures assembly activities are properly planned, materials are staged, drawings are up to date, and schedules are maintained. The coordinator acts as a communication link between assembly, engineering, project management, and quality to ensure efficient workflow and timely project completion. This role also contributes to continuous improvement by applying Lean principles and 5S practices to enhance efficiency, organization, and safety in the assembly area.


                Responsibilities:


                Coordination & Scheduling

                • Assist the Supervisor, Assembly & Test in preparing and maintaining assembly schedules.
                • Coordinate daily/weekly priorities based on project timelines.
                • Monitor work progress and flag potential delays to the Supervisor and Project Manager.
                • Support allocation of work to assembly technicians to balance workload.


                Documentation & Drawing Control

                • Print, distribute, and control technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions for assembly projects.
                • Verify drawing revisions are current before release to the shop floor.
                • Work with Engineering and QA to ensure controlled documents are properly signed off and stored.
                • Maintain assembly records and ensure accurate filing of job-related documents

                  Kitting & Material Support
                • Prepare and stage kits of components, hardware, and consumables for assembly projects.
                • Verify that parts match Bill of Materials (BOM) and communicate shortages to Supply Chain/Project Management.
                • Operate forklift or pallet jacks to move materials as required (must be trained/certified).
                • Support tracking of inventory and consumables required for ongoing builds.
                • Assist with receiving inspection of components as required.

                  Lean, 5S & Continuous Improvement
                  • Apply Lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and reduce waste in assembly support activities.
                  • Maintain and promote 5S standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) in kitting, documentation, and storage areas.
                  • Document and share process improvements and lessons learned with the team.

                    Communication & Reporting
                  • Act as a liaison between assembly, engineering, QA, and project management for project-related tasks.
                  • Track assembly progress and provide updates to project teams.
                  • Document lessons learned and process improvements from assembly projects.

                    Health, Safety & Housekeeping
                  • Follow all Health & Safety, WHMIS, and PPE protocols.
                    • Support maintaining a clean and organized work environment in coordination with assembly staff.

                      Other Duties
                    • Assist with coordination of training or certification requirements for assembly staff.
                    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to assembly workflow, documentation, and scheduling.
                      Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
